Retro-inspired modern classics seem to be all the rage right now, but a few companies were well-ahead of the game. One of the most notable efforts was the Kawasaki ZRX1200R – Cycle World called it “a replica of a replica“, as it was designed to make you think of the iconic 1982 Eddie Lawson Replica.
.
The 1,164cc DOHC liquid-cooled engine produced 123 horsepower, good for a top speed of over 120 mph. It’s fun but also comfortable if you’re the kind of person that wants to ride for hours at a time. It was available in silver, red, blue, and of course: Kawi Green.
.
The seller purchased the bike in October 2022 from a private party in San Antonio, Texas. During his ownership the seller has covered approximately 1,000 miles. The odometer shows 14,055 miles.

2nd set to close on the Iconic site Thursday is a clean RD350 that fires right up - fresh off a recent maintenance that included tires! This iconic Yamaha is from 1975 and it's available for bid until 11AM PST on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

Upon its release in 1973, the Yamaha RD350 was an instant classic. An evolution of the R5, it featured the reliable two-stroke reed-valve 350cc parallel twin, which was capable of consistently dusting bikes with 750cc engines. This bike, simply put, was an overachiever. In fact, A period Yamaha ad showed a sad looking rider at a bar with the phrase “Don’t feel bad. You’re not the first 750 rider to get blown off by a Yamaha 350.”
.
While most big bikes could eventually beat the Yamaha RD350 in a straight line, this bike had quite an advantage when it came to the corners. At the time, this was easily one of the best handling bikes you could buy – the bonus being that it was dirt cheap. In 1974, a RD350 sold for $908. A Kawasaki Z1 sold for $1,995. Wanted a Ducati 750SS? You’d have to spend over $3,000. The RD350 was quick, agile, and accessible to the average rider. Motorcycle Classics calls this the “Best Bang for the Buck.” So, even though you wouldn’t win many drag races, it proved a perennial champion when it came to amateur track racing.

The seller is thinning out his collection and has decided to let the bike go to a new home. The odometer shows 8,857 miles.
.
Maintenance:
The seller states, “New fuel lines and filters, fresh fluids. New seat cover, newer battery, fresh tires, and, what appears to be, newer intake boots and an air box delete kit with 2-into-1 K&N pod filter. Carbs weep if the gas is left on, would benefit from some fresh needles, not an issue when running. All switches, lights, horn and keyed points work. Starts with a quarter kick, runs and rides just as good as it did in 1975.”

Iconic’s 4th and final auction to go live today is a rare Motom 48 that’s made its way to the US! This one’s from 1964 and it’s available for bid now on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

Please note: We have not performed an inspection on this Motom. It is being sold as-is and will need recommissioning (such as a tank clean, a carb clean, oil change, new tires, and new chain, etc.) in order to be a runner/rider.
.
Barely seen outside of Italy, Motom focused on four-stroke small-displacement mopeds and motorcycles. The company was founded in ’47 and kept making bikes until ’71. Though it’s a fairly obscure name now, Motom was the third largest motorcycle manufacturer in Italy in the mid 1950s.
.
The company was also well-known for their use of pressed-steel spine frames and distinctive styling. The 48cc engine was good for 2 horsepower.
.
Information on Motom can be hard to find outside of Italy, and many of their models shared a similar aesthetic. The series of “48” bikes were produced for about twenty years, and over 500,000 were built. We believe that this is either a 48 C or 48 D model.
.
This example is one of over thirty motorcycles to come to Iconic Motorbikes from the Alan Wilzig collection. The odometer shows 15 kilometers (9 miles).
.
Maintenance:
When the bike first arrived, we had our service department verify that the engine was free. Please note: We have not performed an inspection on this Motom. It is being sold as-is and will need recommissioning (such as a tank clean, a carb clean, oil change, new tires, and new chain, etc.) in order to be a runner/rider.

Modifications:
We believe this Motom is mechanically stock, though it was repainted at some point in the past.

First to wrap up on the Iconic Motorbikes auction site Thursday: a smaller Suzuki import that comes decked out in a custom Lucky Strike livery! This iconic GSX-R400 is from 1988 and it's available for bid until 10AM PST on iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

The GSX-R400 was originally launched in Japan in 1984 with the GK71 model, featuring a liquid-cooled inline four cylinder engine with DOHC, four valves per cylinder and close to 60 hp.
.
Lighter than its rivals (under 350 lbs wet), the aluminum framed Suzuki became a hit with its excellent handling, more-than-adequate brakes, and a race-derived heritage.
.
This example came to Iconic as an import from the UK. The odometer shows 53,422 kilometers (33,194 miles).
.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, the bike “underwent a full rebuild with costs amounting to over £5000. Every detail and stage of work performed was documented and recorded along with photographic evidence of its transformation.”
.
In preparation for the listing, the seller had us replace the oil and oil filter, brake fluid, and spark plugs. We also cleaned the fuel tank, serviced the carbs, washed the brake calipers, serviced the chain, and gave the bike a detailing. I’ve had a handful of these in my life (personally) and have always adored them. So much torque, great for taller riders and a nice twin sound!

Going live 3rd for Iconic Motorbikes today is a sharp Le Mans custom that sports a bright red frame and a polished tank, among other goodies! This Moto Guzzi CX100 is from 1980 and it’s available for bid now on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

Moto Guzzi first unveiled the Le Mans 850 back in 1975 at the Milan motorcycle show, bringing the bike to market the following year.
.
In the states, however, not even that was enough. To satisfy the American mantra of “no replacement for displacement” and to compete with the BMW R100RS, Guzzi took the 1000cc engine and lower fairings from the 1000SP sport tourer and added them to the LeMans. What resulted was a variant known as the CX100, and it first arrived in 1979. According to Ian Falloon in his “Moto Guzzi Sport & Le Mans Bible”, just 353 of these bikes were built.
.
As Cycle Magazine found in its 1979 review, “If there’s a road you hold dear to heart out past the lake and Cottonwood trees, if you appreciate craftsmanship, aesthetics, and function, you should be drawn as if by a magnet to the Moto Guzzi Le Mans. It is one of a special few.”
.
The seller acquired the bike from Moto Guzzi Classics eight years ago.
.
Maintenance:

2nd to go live for Iconic today: a tiny Yamaha track bike with a Honda CRF150R engine that’s hiding behind its bodywork! This TZ125 is from 1994 and is available for bid now on Iconicmotorbikeauctions.com

Yamaha first introduced the TZ125 in 1980 as a smaller, more accessible counterpart to its wildly popular TZ250 club racer. And here’s the thing: while most other two-strokes of the era enjoyed relatively short production lives, the little TZ re-appeared in 1994 and soldiered on all the way until 2010.
.
For the power plant, Yamaha utilized a liquid-cooled two-stroke single with the crankshaft, main shaft, and drive shaft arranged in a V-shape for improved balance. Though the engine only measured some 124cc in displacement, it put out a respectable 42hp — not bad, when you consider the bike’s svelte 158-pound dry weight.
.
The seller purchased the bike two years ago in Temecula, California and has decided to sell because he does not fit well on it at 6’3″.
.
The seller states, “I’ve done one session at a kart track, probably about 6 miles.” There is no odometer, true mileage unknown.
.
Maintenance:
Per the seller, “This is a Yamaha TZ125 with a Honda 150R engine swap. I bought the bike from the previous owner who had done the conversion and the paintwork which looks beautiful. The frame has had two engine mounts welded in place to hold the front end of the engine. I recently changed the oil and filter.”

2007 was a special year, as the watch came out right after Nicky’s 2006 MotoGP World Championship.

Here’s what Tissot had to say in their Certificate of Authenticity: “In a world where precision and timing are key, Nicky Hayden, the 2006 MotoGP World Champion, certainly knows the importance of counting every second. no surprise therefore that, as Tissot’s ambassador, a dedicated World Champion signature watch should be created for him, with a carbon-fibre dial and bearing his new 2007 race number “ONE” engraved on the case-back with his signature.”
